Eleanor Crowder is an actor, playwright and director. Audiences know her work from summer productions of Shakespeare in the Park for the past 20 years. She is a founder member of Bear & Co., an Ottawa-based theatre collective, and one of five inaugural resident companies of The Gladstone Theatre. Eleanor has toured across the country, most recently taking her one-woman show Shakespeare’s Will to Newfoundland in 2019. Written by Vern Thiessen, that production will play here in Ottawa when we are able to return to live theatre. Until 2005, Eleanor’s focus was on Theatre for Young Audiences. Her work was recognized in 2002 with the Tolgesy Award for her lifetime contribution to the arts in Ottawa. She continues to work with youth and community actors, teaching and directing large community musicals for the Glebe Neighbourhood Activities Group. She is a MASC artist, a member of Canadian Actors Equity Association and of the Playwrights Guild of Canada.
